Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities into after-school programs and throughout the summer months. Lessons focus on real-world issues: social, economic, and environmental problems, and seeking solutions.
We provide students hands-on, open-ended exploration as well as opportunities for productive teamwork. STEM programs develop a set of thinking, reasoning, investigative, and creative skills that Club members can use in all areas of their lives for STEM learning through a comprehensive strategy that will ensure that every BGCFLAG site will be equipped to offer world-class STEM learning opportunities in an impactful, sustainable, and efficient manner.
Keep kids learning and having fun while doing it!
Lego Robotics – We use Lego Mindstorm kits to engage and challenge students using legos and a little bit of coding. They can use their imaginations to build just about anything.
My.Future – Formerly known as Club Tech, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America program My.Future teaches Club members to conduct Internet research and programs such as Word, Excel, and Adobe. Youth learn to operate equipment such as scanners and digital cameras, and develop newsletters and event programs. These skills and training provide Club members with a foundation for future employment as they apply for their first jobs.
STEM Camps – Clubs offer STEM camps during school breaks, with multiple summer sessions for various ages. Clubs develop their own unique curriculum based on the particular needs and opportunities of their community and staff. Our summer Brain Gain program aims to prevent summer learning loss with fun, themed learning activities. This year we have partnered with STEM City Flagstaff and NASA to introduce students to a new world of STEM!
