Major thank to Ross Dress for Less for their in store campaign to help raise funds for our Powerhour (Homework Club) they raised $1643.90. Here is a little more on the program and again thank you to those who donated at ROSS.
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Boys & Girls Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework support, tutoring and technology engaged activities. The program gives Club members assistance, resources and guidance in a safe place and under the supervision of qualified tutors. By encouraging members to develop a daily habit of completing homework and studying, in a dedicated space with adult support, Power Hour helps members make a commitment to school and learning.
By doing homework, members learn how to:
Read and follow directions independently
Apply lessons learned in school
Become self-motivated learners
Homework assistance and tutoring
Specialized assistance to help Club youth achieve academic success
Engaging homework and tutoring learning stations
Encouragement to study and develop critical thinking skills
Camp is 2/3 FULL. The Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff (BGCF) offers Summer Day Camp programs at our Cogdill location to give youth and teens an adventurous, active and healthy summer. BGCF Summer Day Camp programs also offer fun experiences with an opportunity to meet new friends, participate in sporting activities, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.
There are four reasons why youth and teens should attend a BGCF Summer Day Camp:
Academic Success: Although school may be out, BGCF’s Summer Day Camps provide a variety of educational enrichment activities, including field trips to places like the Lowell Observatory and the Odysea Aquarium.
Be Good, Do Great: Our Club programs are designed to increase self-confidence, help campers form meaningful friendships and understand the importance of giving back to the community.
Healthy Choices: Campers will learn the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle with several fitness options, including sports and recreation activities. In addition, each camper receives a nutritious breakfast and lunch.
Fun with a Purpose: Campers are encouraged to have fun in a positive environment while learning new skills. From the arts and summer reading to cooking lessons and a trip to the Grand Canyon, our Clubs have something to offer to everyone.
